Microstructured Polymer Optical Fibres are an interesting alternative to conventional POFs. In this review, we will compare both fibre's main properties in order to explore how mPOF have extended the possible range of applications. These are in particular illumination, short-haul communication, and sensor applications. I will also discuss some of the issues that relate to making mPOF more usable- termination, connectorization and stability.
